Fuel Prices–Is the End in Sight?
We’ve all heard about it enough, but it doesn’t look like there’s an end in site. Rising prices are everywhere, restaurants, grocery stores, utility and heating bills, and especially at the fuel pump.
We all know that the price of diesel is tied closely to heating oil, which has risen this year, more than usual, because of the colder than normal winter temperatures, notably in the Midwest and Northeast. But we still haven’t quite grasped just how much these fuel prices are affecting our businesses and our lives.

|
"Big trucking companies and small independent drivers are taking huge hits because fuel has become the biggest expense, over maintenance, labor and insurance," said Tifanny Wlazlowski, a spokesperson of the American Trucking Association. Even at $3/gallon, with a truck getting five miles to the gallon, it costs over 60 cents in fuel to run one mile. That means at $4 a gallon, which is a listed price today, it costs 80 cents to run just one mile.
With the national average fuel price this week climbing to $4.02, today it costs a trucker $804 to purchase 200 gallons, $238 more than this week last year when price for diesel was $2.83/gallon!

At Midway, we’re doing our very best to handle the crunch that fuel prices put on our carriers and customers. Most importantly, we’re ensuring the utmost care is taken with your shipment from pickup to delivery point.
